DESK[l]ANCE - The Company

Company Overview

Desklance is a European, Portuguese and United States of America multinational content management systems, client relationship management and hosting, domain registration provider that develops, creates, customizes, implements and supports quite a large range of web ware solutions for MySQL based platforms.

Initially headquartered in Azores, Terceira Island, Portugal, but now having offices as in Chicago and Atlanta, United States of America, its foremost requested services diverge from WordPress, Drupal, phpBB3, Invision Power Board and many others as Joomla and Magento Commerce, especially if blending these last two into one single management platform.

The company was founded mostly to deliver semi-dedicated hosting solutions to a Portuguese marketplace, from small reseller accounts to virtual private servers. However, its products soon turned out to be obsolete amongst a stronger and international competitor retro respective, as the company was merely reduced to national ground due to its server locations, back then in Lisbon and Porto.

2002: Founding
Back in early 2002, Desklance surges under the name of PTiGest, a brand new project that raised some major controversy from the Portuguese scene due to its pricing and attitude, which provided some media attention as well for been one of the very few on the market that handle to provide services as low as up to 70% when compared to its competitors. Regarding exposure, the company featured on a Portuguese newspaper for months with full to medium sized advertising, which was something new on the field and never taken to such extremity by any other local or national company, something that brought along some major interest from prospective customers. Besides featuring on the newspaper, it also appeared on national media broadcasting such as independent television live shows, such as SIC Radical and RTP Madeira for instance, on which one of its sites developed to a customer was exposed to an audience around 143.000 expectations, later on awarded by a couple of websites online as well as widely and positively reviewed on some well known magazines.

2003-2004: Side-Projects
Following a series of events, Alex Borba (CEO: Chief Executive Officer) and Carla Borba (COO: Chief Operations Officer) ventured toward the online social communication media by releasing Jornal Online, a national non-profit online newspaper that had a daily publishing of up to 30 up-to-date news, articles, opinion writings which soon reached over the 5.000 visitors online per day and was sharing fresh news through an RSS Application on hundreds of blogs online.

During one year, Jornal Online (often called of "JO") was growing fast with a database almost reaching the 10.000 archived articles, to then be stopped due to inconstant server failures, crashes and other misfortunes.

2005-2007: Restructuration
Between 2005 and 2007 the Portuguese law changed, and companies with the PT initials on its name were forced to either remove it or re-register under a completely different name. Such was the case for PTiGest which couldn't go on with PT at the beginning of its name. Therefore, and after having some discussion, a new name was found on the form of Desklance (often mentioned as "DESK[l]ANCE" or "DL"), a more suitable name that also not only allowed the people at Desklance to refresh their platform but as to seriously consider the opportunity to explore other markets and open many doors on the international market as well.

2008: The Invasion
With a short collaboration which resulted on innumerous conflicts between the people at Desklance and Kinasnet, leading Kinasnet do dissolve, Desklance was re-inventing itself by gaining ground everywhere it was passing, now not only providing the initial products that it had since the very first beginning back in yearly 2002, but also as a complementary force adding novelties to its branch such as management and maintenance services alienated with others as installation, setup and additional configurations.

The aim is, as always, to short out the need for freelancing recruitment by offering a wide choice of solutions, with optional implementations, ready to be delivered within 24h to 48 hours prior to purchase.

As time went by the company constantly grew, so its number of employees now strengthening both support and sales department, all cupped up with a extremely strong web promotion that ranges from simple banners to the inclusion of news in all major directories.
